SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE

The sustainable architecture track will create new solutions to improve the sustainability of the construction and the maintenance of buildings, while ensuring the cost-effective, equitable, and innovative use of spacing. 

INDUSTRIAL POLLUTION

The industrial pollution track management investigates practices that improve the condition of public areas by mitigating industrial pollution and reforming urban disposal practices.

WATER ACCESS AND MANAGEMENT

The water access and management track explores water supply infrastructure to enhance the future treatment of rainwater, stormwater, and wastewater, and control urban runoff and distribution from watersheds.

CITY PLANNING AND TRANSPORTATION

The city planning and transportation track will ideate smart and sustainable street design, transit-oriented development, and sustainable transportation planning to improve people’s quality of life and health, and their environment.

Blueprint 2022: Cities + Succession focuses on developing revolutionary ideas in response to critical challenges, within rapidly growing urban centers around the world, through a thoughtful, innovative design process. This year’s event aims to inspire actionable blueprints for sustainable and scalable technologies or policies that can transform the cities of tomorrow.

Leonel Lima Ponce

Academic Director, Pratt Institute Graduate Center for Planning

Leonel is a Registered Architect (NY), LEED GA, WEDG, and is the Acting Academic Director of Pratt Institute Graduate Center for Planning and the Environment’s MS in Sustainable Environmental Systems program. He is a founding member of resilient design collaborative Operation Resilient Living and Innovation Plus (ORLI+). Leonel focuses on fostering just partnerships for sustainable and resilient design, infrastructure, and development through community-based research, engagement and design strategies, locally and internationally - with an emphasis on his adopted home of New York City and his birth city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Craig Holland

Senior Director, Investments - The Nature Conservancy

Craig is the Senior Director of Investments for The Nature Conservancy’s Healthy Cities Program where he develops global strategies and investment products to scale environmental markets related to urban conservation activities. He structured and is a strategic advisor to District Stormwater, LLC, a green infrastructure project developer in Washington, D.C. Craig also serves as the CEO and President of the Board of Brightstorm, a joint venture between the Conservancy and the technology firm Opti that builds distributed water quality and flood resilience projects. Craig is on an advisory committee to the City of Detroit to develop a new stormwater ordinance and related changes to the City’s building codes; and to the City of Berlin, Germany to determine policy and procurement pathways for greater implementation of nature-based solutions.

Jerome Lynch

Vinik Dean, Pratt School of Engineering - Duke University

Dr. Jerome Lynch is the Vinik Dean of Engineering of the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University; he also holds the titles of Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Prior to joining Duke, he was a tenured faculty member of the University of Michigan from 2003 to 2021. He is a preeminent scholar working in the field of advanced sensing and information technologies for the monitoring and control of civil infrastructure systems. He was the Director of the $19.2 million National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Technology Innovation Program Center on Cyber-Enabled Wireless Monitoring Systems for the Protection of Deteriorating Infrastructure Systems from 2009 to 2014.

Alexander Cahill

Principal Planner, City and County of Durham

Alexander grew up in Minnesota in the Twin Cities area. There, he attended the University of Minnesota where he studied Urban Planning, Statistics, & Political Economies. He went on to earn his Masters of Science in Leadership Development. After college, he went to work as a clinical director, advocating for women's health. He has also worked for the City of Woodbury, Minnesota and the City of West Des Moines, Iowa, in planning, engineering, and equity, diversity and inclusion roles. Alexander currently sits on the American Planning Association's National Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee and is the past vice-chair of the LGBTQ+ Planners Division. His current role as the Principal Planner for the City and County of Durham allows him to focus on racial equity work and process improvement projects.

Eric Huntley

Lecturer, MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning

Eric Robsky Huntley (they/them) is a Lecturer in Urban Science and Planning in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT, a Visiting Lecturer in Landscape Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and a Research Associate of the Data + Feminism Lab at MIT. They are a scholar and teacher whose work spans spatial data science, feminist data studies, digital geography, and data literacy. They hold a PhD in Geography from the University of Kentucky, a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts Technology, also from Michigan.

Philabian Lindo

Software Developer, Duke University

Philabian is a software development professional with focus on mobile platforms. He currently develops enterprise level mobile applications for Duke University and has led mobile development workshops for Duke community. He also has led student teams on 10 weeks mobile development projects (https://codeplus.duke.edu/).

Augustus Wendell

Assistant Professor of the Practice, Duke University

Augustus E. Wendell is an Assistant Professor of the Practice in the Department of Art, Art History and Visual Studies at Duke University. He has been a faculty member there since 2019. Augustus completed his MFA in Computer Art at The School of Visual Arts and his undergraduate studies at Northeastern University. Augustus has held appointments at Parsons the New School for Design, The New York School of Interior Design, Virginia Tech and the New Jersey Institute of Technology where he was program coordinator for the Digital Design program. Augustus researches the application of computational processes to design, fine art and historical research. He has a concentration in the application of image and model based workflows to aid in the study of complex geographic and spatial conditions.

Jesko von Windheim

Professor of the Practice, Innovation & Entrepreneurship , Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment

Dr. von Windheim is a Duke Professor of the Practice and a technology entrepreneur who is focused primarily on early-stage innovations in the physical sciences. He was a co-founder of Cronos Integrated Microsystems (acquired by JDS Uniphase) and CEO and founder of Nextreme Thermal Solutions (acquired by Laird Technologies). As a Professor of the Practice, Dr. von Windheim works with faculty and students to identify, fund and commercialize early stage technologies for medical, environmental and industrial applications. Sam Kelly

Project Lead, Sentinel AI - Conservation X Labs

Sam Kelly is the Lead of Sentinel AI at Conservation X Labs, and Co-Founder of FaunaLabs. He is a mechanical engineering graduate from Duke University and focuses on identifying and developing new technology opportunities with impacts in conservation. During his time at Duke, Sam founded Duke Conservation Tech – a student organization which develops conservation technology and hosts the annual Blueprint ideathon. As an engineer, Sam has expertise in physical, electronic and hardware design for conservation technology projects spanning a marine animal tag to a variety of autonomous vehicle platforms (under, on, and above water).

Kate Berg

GIS Lead, Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE)

Kate is the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) lead at the State of Michigan’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), where I wear many hats including web GIS administrator, open maps and data wrangler, geospatial educator, and project consultant. I was recently selected as one of xyHt Magazine's 22 Young Geospatial Pros To Watch In 2022 and serve as Outreach Chair for the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA)'s GIS Vanguard Cabinet. When I’m not wearing those hats, you can find me in the water scuba diving a local Michigan shipwreck or at the desk dabbling with my latest carto- creations. I am known on Twitter by my alias @pokateo_ where I enjoy sharing my original geography/geospatial memes under the tag #mappymeme and lead weekly #GISChat discussions.

Christina Oliver

Christina graduated with my Bachelor's in English and Creative Writing with a concentration in Nonfiction, but I've always had a propensity for entrepreneurship. I started with LimeLoop 8 months ago and dove into the industry head first. I work with my team to build content for purposeful, data-driven growth. If I'm not working or evolving my craft, I'm most likely outside hiking, biking, or running; reading a delicious novel(s); or expanding my music palate.

Kevin He

Principal Associate, The Pew Charitable Trusts

Kevin He is an avid conservation advocate and currently serves as a principal associate in environmental economics on the Conservation Science team at The Pew Charitable Trusts. In that role, Kevin supports Pew's Environment portfolio in developing new lines of research, scoping new topic areas, and developing and strengthening policy strategies achieving conservation and human outcomes. Before joining Pew, Kevin worked as a fisheries economist at Oceana with a particular focus on small-scale fisheries. Kevin holds an MS in environmental economics from the University of Michigan and a BS in environmental sciences from Duke University. Outside the workplace, Kevin dabbles as a musician (clarinet and conducting) and nature photographer.

Samantha Miezio

Associate, The Concord Group

Samantha Miezio is an associate at The Concord Group, a real estate advisory firm that provides vital analytical input throughout all phases of real estate financing, development, and operations. Samantha’s work focuses primarily on market analyses of multifamily development opportunities in cities across the southeast. She is a recent graduate of Duke University, where she designed her own major in urban studies and developed a passion for sustainable transportation and city planning. Samantha currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia, where she enjoys biking around the city and exploring new coffee shops.

Kevin Webb
